Erie Sign at Bayview Park – Erie, PA

Every city with a photogenic waterfront eventually installs giant letters spelling its own name. Erie is no exception. The difference is that Erie picked a genuinely great spot for theirs.

Sunset does the sign a lot of favors.

The big white ERIE letters ride a curved red base in Bayview Park at 598 West 2nd Street, on a bluff looking straight down at the marina on Presque Isle Bay. The sign went in as part of the park’s revitalization, with the materials and construction donated. We rolled up right at sunset, which is clearly the correct time: the sky goes orange, the bay goes silver, and the sign handles the rest.

Proof we were there: the obligatory sign selfie.

This is a five-minute stop, and that’s exactly what it should be. Park, take your picture, admire the bay, move on. We hit it on the same evening loop as Horse Drawn Earth, a few minutes away. Do both and you’ve earned dinner.
