The Old Mill – Little Rock, Arkansas

Tucked away in the rolling hills of Little Rock is a tiny slice of history – movie history that is! According to their website:

A historic re-creation of an early 1830s water-powered grist mill, the Old Mill was built as a tribute to Arkansas pioneers. It is in the opening scenes of the classic movie “Gone With The Wind” and is believed to be the last standing structure from the film. It features faux bois (“fake wood”) concrete sculptures by Señor Dionicio Rodriguez and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (Site #86003585). The Old Mill is maintained by the North Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department, the Pulaski County Master Gardeners, and the non-profit Friends of the Old Mill, Inc.

So keep in mind if you visit that this was never an actual working mill, but a movie set. So it is picture perfect, but also fairly small.

The nice thing about visiting The Old Mill is that it’s a beautiful setting, and you can probably get some nice photos. In fact, it’s a popular spot for wedding photographers. The bad news is that it can get crowded – and remember it’s not very big. So you might be standing there thinking how much you’d like to get a photo, or just enjoy the peace and serenity, and it’s just not gonna happen.

So, the best idea is to come early, and come on “off” days. The goal is to try and get the place to yourself, so you can avoid crowds and groups of rude teenagers, who unfortunately were there when we went, making it impossible for me to get the actual photos that I really wanted to take.
